San Diego October 2012

Day of the Dead festival in Old Town San Diego.

Rust General Store has a killer selection of old timey sodas and an olde fashioned soda fountain.

Everything is huge right now at the San Diego Natural History Museum.
Prehistoric sharks don't exist anymore and I'm glad.

The giant chocolates are for when you REALLY mess things up with the misses.

Prague July 2012

I.P. Pavlov station was the first stop on my Prague journey.  It was nice to see this awesome mural that pays tribute to Russian physiologist  Ivan Petrovich Pavlov.

Prague has a eerie quality at night like a haunted city.

The first night in Prague I instantly felt comfortable.  It was like staying in a horror film or Gotham City.
Batman fun fact: production designer Anton Furst based his Gotham City design for 1989's Batman on Prague's gothic noir feeling streets.

My fiancee and I brought some snacks and drinks home to our apartment.  Check out the tiny absinthe bottle that cost $15 USD.

Prague Astronomical Clock first installed in 1410 is the third oldest clock in the world.

Death is represented by the skeleton that rings the hourly bell.  The clock is ticking for us always.  I find this inspiring.  I have to make the most of the time that I've been given.  Each hour is a gift.

Church of St. James is a lovely place.  There is a special kind of magic found there.  The story about Vaclav Vavrinec Reiner who was painting the picture found on the altar.  He didn't die of the plague while he was working but after he finished his painting he got the plague and died.  It was like some force wanted him to finish.

This 400 year old mummified arm belonged to a jewel thief who was ensnared by the Madonna statue.  His arm was severed and is found on the post above as a warning to thieves.

I'm on the Charles Bridge over the Vltava River.  Great place to buy cool hand-made souvenirs.

Jan Palach was a student that set himself on fire to protest the Soviet Union who crushed the the good people of Prague who were enjoying "the Prague Spring."  Palach was celebrated during "Palach Week" which lead to the fall of commuism in Czechoslovakia.

Marylin Monroe and James Dean are American ghosts that would have fit nicely in Prague.

The entrance to the Prague Ghosts and Legends Museum.  I couldn't figure out if that was a real guy in a suit or just a statue.  Spooky.

 Duff Beer exists in Prague!

Starsky and Hutch run a successful nightclub in Prague now.
Duff Beer for me  Duff Beer for you.

 Prague is beautiful at night.

Prague feels a bit like Gotham City at times.  Especially when you consider that the Sheraton is next to this all night brothel.  However it didn't feel unsafe per se, it just felt a little seedy.

The brothel did bring in guys saying "woo-hoo" at all hours of the day.  Other than that momentary nuisance the streets seemed pretty safe.

I love the juxtaposition of the graffiti next to the statues.  Two very different forms of art.
Prague loves art especially music.  I spotted an Afghan Whigs venue poster.

 Rancid just played a show.
Foo Fighters were playing next month.
